Margaret O. Amure - "I Lied"

Margaret O. Amure is a pastor from Benin-City, Nigeria.  She previously came out with a testimony in 2013 that she had died and gone to hell and heaven, and that she had come back with a message from the Lord for mankind. Now on her latest video posted 24 March 2019 she says that she had been sick for six or seven months and almost died after traveling to Israel and Italy, but she did not actually die. She says, "I did not die and go to heaven and hell. I lied," and she has made an apology to the body of Christ. She also states in the video that she has been going around to churches confessing this sin since May 2015.

Here are some excerpts from the video, which you can find on Youtube:

"It was the Word of God that I preached, [but] I was not sent. Satan used me to confuse the program of God for this end time. He used me to corrupt other testimonies. Today, whether good or bad testimonies, nobody believes them [any more]. What I did was very, very wrong. I stand to judge and condemn my actions. I am very, very sorry for what I did. Please forgive me, brethren. When this message comes to you, if you are truly a child of God, just ask God for mercy for me and don't begin to ask me questions...I was a liar. I was a cheat, a fraud."

My preface to my original article, in which I posted her testimony, stated: "Although I have not yet personally spoken to sister Marguerite herself, I made a good faith effort to do so.  I managed to speak briefly with her son, who says that she really did die, and she is a good mother.  I also spoke with a pastor who knows her well, named Dr. Stephen Tepu Aikhoje, whom she acknowledges with gratitude at the end of her video testimony, as one of the people who helped her.  Dr. Aikhoje said that she was the State Director for the Police Chaplaincy, and he sat under her leadership as such, while they were chaplains together.  He went to her home and her church several times to pray with her, as her case was getting worse before she died.  He said, "She is a trustworthy leader, very disciplined, and I know her to be truthful."  In fact, he distributes copies of her testimony on CD.   Therefore, I feel confident in posting this testimony without any reservations."

That was what I wrote originally after attempting to do my due diligence, which in conjunction with the Scriptures seemed to indicate that her testimony was genuine. However, that is no longer my opinion of her testimony. Of course, I retract that statement, although I am quoting it here, so that you can see that I did in fact attempt to validate her testimony. The fact that I never got a call back from her is probably because she knew at that time that she was lying and didn't want to speak with me.

Why Did This Happen?
In her recorded confession, she claimed that she was a sinner at the time she committed this sin, implying that she was not saved yet. In light of what Dr. Aikhoje told me about her at that time in 2013, it is hard for me to believe she was not yet born again, but I suppose it is possible. That is the way she explains what she did by simply saying she was a sinner.

As I have already mentioned, Dr. Aikhoje had said to me that she was the State Director for the Police Chaplaincy, and he had sat under her leadership as such. He said, "She is a trustworthy leader, very disciplined, and I know her to be truthful."  That is not something you say about a sinner, and her ministry is not typical for a sinner. But the Lord knows whether she was already born again at that time or not.

Moreover, only He knows what motivated her to commit this sin. But in my opinion it was similar to what Ananias and Saphira did, as recorded in Acts 5. They saw that Barnabas had sold a piece of property and had given to the apostles the full amount he had received from its sale. They wanted to appear as generous as he was, so they sold a piece of property and then kept part of the proceeds for themselves, but lied to the apostles and the Holy Spirit by pretending to have given the full price they got to the apostles. That is why they were struck dead by the judgment of God.

If you look at what sister Margaret did, to me it seems like it may have had a similar motivation. Perhaps she wanted to appear to have a heaven and hell testimony like so many others, in order to enjoy the benefits that such a testimony affords in terms of popularity, sensationalism, broadening her preaching opportunities, and helping to drive home the message of holiness that she felt was so important for the church to hear. You have to remember that she had been sick for six to seven months and almost did die, so after that experience she was in a weakened state and that may have contributed to her becoming vulnerable to the enemy's temptation to make up this fraudulent story as she did. That is not to justify what she did, but to offer a possible reason why it happened. It is not for me to judge her motives.

The Damage is Done
Nevertheless, here is some of the damage done by sister Margaret's fraudulent testimony, which I trust you will not allow to happen to you:

1. It may cause some people to doubt any testimony they hear about heaven or hell.
2. It may cause some people to doubt the message of holiness.
3. It may cause some people to doubt that godly attire and adornment is pleasing to the Lord, as I have written about in Godly Attire and Adornment -- Seven Divine Revelations, Garments of Godliness, Seven Reasons to Believe the Seven Divine Revelations, Is a Woman's Hair Her Head Covering? and Cross Dressing or Carrying Your Cross.

Closing Words
She was a reputable pastor in Africa who lied to the Body of Christ, which is very serious. At least she has now repented and given an apology, so that she can be forgiven. The Lord has been merciful to allow her to live and to forgive her. However, the damage has unfortunately been done. I personally forgive her and apologize to you for posting her testimony which has been on this site for nearly six years now. If someone had informed me sooner that she was confessing that it was a fraud, I would have immediately removed the article as I did today as soon as I discovered that she had lied. This emphasizes the importance of carefully praying about any message you hear and using the Scriptures to discern whether what they have said is truly from the Lord or not.

Author's note Sister Amure is not personally connected with this site. Neither is this ministry associated in any way with HOREMOW, which produced the video of her confession in Abuja, Nigeria. For more information on our position, please see Disclaimers.

Do You Want to Know Him?
If you want to know Jesus personally, you can. It all begins when you repent and believe in Jesus.  Do you know what God's Word, the Bible says?

“Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” (Mar 1:14b-15).  He preached that we must repent and believe.

Please see my explanation of this in my post called "Do You Want to Know Jesus?"

  1. Thank you so very much for these Revelations. They among others, serve for information as to what the Lord requires of us. I for one have benefited greatly, and am determined to live my life as the Lord would have me so do. Not in the way of the world, but to God. I have, and will continue to examine myself and my life in light of these revelations and maintain a deeper sense of the holiness and sanctity of the Lord and Christian life. You and others like you have changed my life because of your obedience to the Lord. I have already quit smoking cigarettes and am now praying to the Lord to help me see what other things I need to do to return to my first love. Again Thank You so very very much! RTeeLee

  2. Dear brother Tyre, my wife and I read your comment with joy, and we pray that the Lord will answer your heart cry. It's wonderful to find another saint, who is striving to enter the kingdom through the narrow way, and seeks to be obedient in all areas of life. The Lord will surely bless you for that, and you will be rewarded, if you hold fast to your faith to the end. We, too, thank the Lord for these revelations, which the Lord is His mercy is giving to warn the Bride and prepare her for the wedding. To God be the glory! Len

  3. Which Jesus did she see? I don't believe its the same Jesus who died on the cross and rose again on the third day. Jesus is not an author of confusion, neither is He a liar. Jesus asked His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem till they receive the Holy Ghost; which they did and they spoke in tongues immediately. How can she say that the same Jesus is mocking speaking in tongues? I do not believe her. She is even talking like God is so interested in sending people to hell; no. He wants all to come to the knowledge of Him. Yes, there are false prophets, yes there are those who don't love God; even though they claim to be christians but the speaking in tongues part and the jewelry part as well; I don't agree its from God. Acts 2:1-5, Eze 16:8-13.

    1. She saw a pastor speaking in tongues in hell. She asked him about it and he explained that he did not speak in tongues on earth. But he had mocked pastors who spoke in tongues, and he said, “That is why I’m here.”

  4. Dear Olufunmbi, I do not recall her saying anything against speaking in tongues. I will need you to be specific please.

  5. Olufunmbi, you need to listen to the Youtube video to grasp what she is saying fully (the blog doesn't do it proper justice). She said the pastor in hell told her that he was NOT sent to hell because he did not speak in tongues but because he (the pastor) was mocking other pastors who spoke in tongues. HTH?

  6. She said satan stands at the gate of heaven with a bible to judge people and sends them to hell. Did the bible say satan is the Judge or Jesus? If this part is an error, then is all the revelation error or true?

    1. "Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down." Revelation 12:10

"Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it." - Job 1: 6-7

    2. Eustace Eze, after I saw the comment from James John, I was going to say the same thing you did, but I did not have time yet. satan is the accuser. he accuses the brethren of sin. Sin is defined in the Bible. So if he is going to bring accusations, they will be based on violations of the Word of God. Margaret did not say satan was the Judge of our souls, but rather he stood there to accuse. Zechariah said, "Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him." (Zec 3:1)

    3. Hello James John, what you wrote made me laugh... but it is 100% true and even more that satan uses bible to condemn people not only at the gate of heaven but also in hell. I'm sorry to tell you that in the deep things of darkness, satan's kingdom has to incorporates the WORD of God in order to function well (and to propagate all kinds of wickedness).

When satan judge people base on what is written in the bible, normally, Jesus also check to see whether what satan is saying is true, and if it is true whether that person can be acquitted of that ACCUSATION. If not, satan wins and takes them to hell!

  7. Believe it or not, Margaret amura never asked for anyones opinion. so i say weldone madam may God bless and increase her ministry. God is giving numerous warnings all over the world like never before, because the hour is drawing near i too received a brief vision from God as concerning the church and when he suddenly appears and some events during the tribulation, which i don't fully understand. I've noticed each message in this end time visions cover different areas. A small book on it will be published next month august. God bless you

  9. take it or leave it, without holiness, no one shall see God. Jesus Christ told us that the way is very narrow to eternal life. God is not a lawless God and we His children are to be like Him in every respect (Rom. 12: 1-2). Only the sheep of Jesus Christ will listen to His voice and obey His Call

  12. The NASB version of 1 Peter 3.3a, which you quote, is inaccurate, especially without the italics - it says 'Your adornment must not be merely external..', whereas the original says: 'ὧν ἔστω οὐχ ὁ ἔξωθεν ... κόσμος' - and there is no sign of anything like 'merely' there. If it did say 'merely', then that would change the meaning completely, even to say that women should adorn themselves externally! But it doesn't. Praise the Lord for His wonderful and true and reliable holy Word. Andrew

    1. Hey again, Andrew. You are correct. I was aware of that, but I guess I just copied and pasted from the Bible without mentioning that. However, I myself have pointed that out before. Thanks for the comment. Shalom!

    2. I think the fine is also absent.

"Do not let your adornment be outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,"

      so:

      1. No arranging the hair
      2. No wearing of gold
      3. No putting on apparel

      How do we interprete this?

      Delete
    3. Dear kcigiri, we interpret it in context with the entire passage, related passages like 1 Tim 2:9-10, and the entire Bible. 1. Elaborate or unnatural hairdos, for example; 2. gold jewelry and other types; 3. apparel must be discreet, modest, proper, not immodest, indiscreet, improper, expensive, or worldly. The emphasis is on godly adornment, especially by means of the hidden person of the heart, unfading beauty of things like a gentle and quiet spirit. These are precious in God's sight. 20. Praise the Lord. I want to thank God for keeping her till this time because assuming she had died she would have gone down to the deepest torment section of hell fire. Inorder words let us all forgive her and keep the faith on, if you are truely a believer you will know that the Bible says: it's appointed unto man once to die and after death judgement, and also in Hebrews the Bible says follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. Let's not allow the devil deceive us, he wants to bring confusion to the body of Christ but always remember the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. Sister magaret, the Lord has forgiven you, he is not willing for any to perish but that all should come to Repentance, inasmuch as you have restituted your lies told, he is faithful and just to forgive. God bless us as we continue to stand on that holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. 08106835078
